Jury awards $5.2 million to nurse fired after reporting abuse

Katrina Wesemann, an Illinois nurse who claimed she was fired from her job after reporting abuse, has been awarded $5.2 million. Wesemann was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Heritage Health in Dwight, Illinois in October 2012  when she was fired by her employer. Wesemann claims that Heritage fired her because she refused to follow orders from the director of nursing who instructed her to double-dose anxious residents with anti-anxiety medications and to delete records of suspicious injuries on residents. The jury’s verdict included past wages, benefits and $5 million in punitive damages for Wesemann.
